Todd the Credit Guy works to educate students on the importance of credit and debt

“It’s critical that we teach the fundamentals of credit and debt to our young people. We’re happy to have the opportunity to extend our credit counseling services to these students, before they encounter credit difficulties,” says Todd Ossenfort, Chief Operating Officer at Pioneer Credit Counseling.

Todd Ossenfort, the CREDIT GUY, goes back to school to educate juniors and seniors of Rapid City Central High School about Credit Reports, Credit Cards and Identity Theft as part of their Personal Finance Class. Laca Ossenfort, Administrator of Pioneer, was also present to lend a helping hand. Upon review of the up and coming movie “Identity Thief,” students were able to see the importance of monitoring their credit, and taking necessary precautions to hinder such situations from happening to them personally.

Students at Rapid City Central High School are receiving a two day crash course in the value of establishing and maintaining healthy credit and debt levels from Rapid City based Pioneer Credit Counseling. They will also identify and learn about different types of “credit cards”, when establishing new credit including, memberships, rewards programs, fees, etc..

Juniors and seniors will learn what credit is, why it’s important, how to establish credit and most of all, how to keep positive credit scores. In addition, students are being taught how to read their credit report and understand their credit score.

Credit and debt levels impact many aspects of individual’s lives. Today more employers use credit reports to evaluate and separate qualified job candidates from their peers. Without being taught the fundamentals and relationship of credit and debt, many candidates find themselves blindsided when the results of their credit report prevent them from obtaining employment.

Todd the Credit Guy and Laca Ossenfort will be returning for another session in May of 2013.
